Letter to Borus, December IS 482

To: Borus Redrum, c/o Budehuc Castle, Grasslands
From: Percival Fraulein, c/o Brass Castle, Zexen Federation
December 10, IS 482

My dear Borus,

I hope this letter finds you well. I must make a confession; I am an awful, awful friend. I barely stopped to say farewell when I was called away to duty, and have not written you in almost two months. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me for my complete boorishness. It isn't even that I've been too busy to write, I simply didn't know where to begin or whether you had received information from other sources. You have my sincerest apologies, and I will do my best to make up for it with the finest of gifts from exotic lands.

When I was initially called away, it was to fill an important position at Brass Castle. You see, the riding instructor for the cavalry was thrown and broke his arm severely, to where he couldn't do his job at all. Naturally, they called in the next best thing, the knighthood's best rider who happened to be rather nearby to respond to the summons. So, I've been spending the last couple of months teaching our next generation of knights how to ride and fight. But the instructor's injuries are healed well enough that he can resume duty. I will be staying on to handle the myriad other duties that have been heaped upon my shoulders while here, but I hope to make it back to Budehuc by Yule. It has become my tradition of late to visit my mother and all of Iksay for Yuletide, so perhaps it will be my best excuse to get away from here and return to the castle.

If you have a moment, please offer Lady Cecile my sincere apologies for abandoning the post I had taken up. I trust no further incidents have happened since that bandit attack; have they identified who was kidnapped, yet? I should hope so, and that the poor missing person is found and safe and warm at Budehuc once again. I shudder to think of anyone being in a bandit's possession for two months.

I won't make any promises about which date in particular will see me riding through the gates. It should be by Yule at the latest. It depends on how quickly I can tie up loose ends and put to rest the concerns of the lesser knights that they can't handle all this work themselves. They're just being layabouts; they are perfectly capable, they just don't want to now. Roland offers his greetings, and Leo would like to know when you're coming back to share a bottle or two. I told them they ought to ride out to spend Yule with us at Budehuc, but you know Leo and riding in the cold.

The enclosed letter is a similar hello and missive to Kathy, I would appreciate it being passed along. I hope to see you soon, old friend - Goddess willing.

Your good friend,

Percival Fraulein
