Time for private thoughts
Oh blessed spring...the daffodils and tulips are open full, the lilacs and apple trees are budding, and new leaves are bursting all over the forest. It's such a relief, to see that the Sun Rune did not permanently damage this land. I think, only the early flowers, like crocuses, were harmed, but they come back every spring regardless, even when they poke up too early out of the snow.
The spring festival was a marvelous idea. We didn't have one last year, I recall, but there was the summer one. Either way, a festival is a festival and I am so pleased to be enjoying it. I took a day off in which to man the kissing booth again, and once again it was an unrivaled success. No jealous would-be boyfriends hounding girls in front of me, although Roy and Miss Faylen were still up to something. She was the only one who paid for a full kiss, oddly enough. Such shy women we have around here. But then, I did say it was all platonic, and all in good fun, and so it was. Funny, how terrible my luck is when it comes to serious matters of the heart, but when I keep things strictly platonic, everything works out fine. Perhaps I should take that as a sign. Perhaps I was right to think that I am better off not involving myself with anyone at all.
Aside from that, everything has been so very interesting. All the visitors coming in from nearby towns have been enjoying themselves, and aside from an occasional bout of too much to drink, there haven't been any problems at all. I patrol as usual, and find nothing but smiles and queries as to where the privies are. If that's the hardest part of my job while the festival is ongoing, then I should say this is the easiest guarding job I've ever had. Still! It wouldn't do well to be lulled into a false sense of security and let some pickpocket or troublemaker slip under my nose. Duty is still duty.
There is a formal party of some kind coming up yet. I will have to break out my nicest coat and waistcoat. I haven't been to a formal ball in ages! Not that the concert and the performances haven't been lovely (oh, they have), but I am certainly looking forward to the party.
May Day is also coming up, and unless some interesting event is scheduled for that day, I think I will travel to Iksay to celebrate there. Not like last year, though...perhaps I will slip off alone and make the excuse to visit my mother. Last year was an unmitigated disaster. But everyone else will be so busy making things happen here, that they won't feel the need to join me in Iksay for some fun. There will be fun enough here for their tastes, I'm sure. At the very least, I must not drink too much this year, nor make promises to anyone. That way, I can't disappoint anyone or make a fool of myself.
I believe there may be some desserts somewhere with my name on them. Perhaps I shall go seek them out!
